Property Tax Appeal Letter

You get your property tax bill, and see that you have been over taxed, what would you do next? Would you pay the amount asked for, or will you want it to be rectified? Of course, you would get it rectified. For this, you will have to bring to notice, the errors in your tax assessment and appeal to the concerned officer, about the mistakes in the statement. In such situations, you need to write a property tax appeal letter. You can also use this letter to request the concerned department to issue a statement of your tax payment that you would need in various documentation procedures in different places.

The format of an appeal letter is like any other formal letter, but the only difference is that it stresses more on evidences and facts that make the appellant's appeal stronger, and forces the decision maker to review his/her decision. Re: Appeal to rectify the errors in the property tax bill; Bill no.: CA 345267

Dear Mr. Husk,

I am Denis Mark, and this is with reference to the property tax bill issued to me dated 12th October, 2011. I would like to bring to your notice that there are some errors in this bill, and appeal you to rectify the same at the earliest, so that I can make the payment on time.

The tax bill read a tax for a built up area of 950sq.ft. It also includes a parking area allotment of 3X3 feet. Based on these dimensions, the calculation of tax to be paid by me comes to $500. However, this data is incorrect, and thus the calculation.

The built up area of my house is 900 sq. ft., and not 950 sq. ft., as stated above. I have not opted for a personal parking as I do not own a vehicle. Owing to this error, the calculation comes to $500, which should actually be $425. I have attached the blueprint of the house, and a photocopy of the documents of the house, to give you a correct idea of the actual property I own.

I appeal to you to please rectify the errors in the bill at the earliest, referring to the documents attached with it, so that I pay my property tax on time.

Dear Mr. Husk,

I am Denis Mark, and this is to appeal to you to issue me a statement of the property tax of my house in Kevin Strauss Apartments, Apt. no. 602.

I have cleared the tax on 5th October, 2011; however, as the concerned officer was not in office that day, I was asked to return on 10th October, and collect the papers. I did come to your office on 10th October, but I did not get the papers as the concerned officer was still on leave. I need the statements for some bank procedures, and the bank work is being delayed just because of this one document. I have attached the receipt of payments with this letter.

I appeal to you to kindly issue me the statement at the earliest, after reviewing the receipt, so that I could proceed further with the bank procedures.
