Many countries provide many unemployment benefits to the citizens of the country who are unemployed. To be eligible for these unemployment benefits, the appellant has to be eligible for the same, as per the criteria, and rules and regulations of the country. Every country or even a state has different rules, regulations, and eligibility criteria for getting unemployment benefits. To qualify for the same, you need to fulfill these criteria. You thus need to understand the criteria thoroughly before writing an unemployment appeal letter to qualify for the unemployment benefits.

To qualify for unemployment benefits the appellant needs to fulfill certain standard criteria like-

  1. Appellant has to be unemployed and not work part time or anywhere else, and also get the benefits of unemployment
  2. Appellant has to be terminated or laid off. Anyone who quits or resigns is not eligible for unemployment benefits.
  3. Quitting under specific circumstances can make you eligible for unemployment benefits. For example, if you quit because the employer you working for was conducting illegal activities under the name of the organization, or was violating many laws, and you communicate this reason to the officer listening to your hearing, or handling your case, he/she may take a decision in your favor.

A normal unemployment appeal letter would be like an application letter where the appellant appeals for unemployment benefits. The another unemployment appeal letter would be one wherein an unemployment claim or request has been denied. The appellant thus writes an appeal letter claiming for the benefits and challenging the denial decision taken against him.

The format of an appeal letter is similar to a formal letter. Besides, the contents and format of the formal letter, there are some points that need to be included in the appeal letter. These are -

  1. Case no., judge and date of hearing - in case of denial or appeal, revision of the decision

Re: Unemployment claim appeal no. CA -45123

Dear Mr.Shine,

I am John Pop and this is with reference to the unemployment claim dated 25th September, 2011. My claim of unemployment benefits was denied as per the letter sent in response to my claim letter from your office.

As per the letter sent by you, my claim for unemployment benefits has been denied because my application for the same was received after the last date allotted by the EDD office. I believe that this is not a valid reason because I had posted the application 20 days before the last date of application. I therefore appeal you to look into the matter.

I am jobless since the last two years. I have completed my studies in the year 2009, and am looking for job since then. I could not opt for Masters' because the financial condition of my family is not very established. My family also has the burden of two loans that has to be repaid within the next year. I thus request you to kindly consider this as an exceptional case, and consider my application for unemployment benefits.

I have attached the receipt of the post office that mentions the postal date as evidence proving that the delay has been on the part of the postal services, and not because of my negligence. Please approve my claim so that I can get the benefits of unemployment, and support my living.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Regards,

John Pop
