Each one of us gets married at a point of time in our life. It is the beginning of a new phase of our life. Marriage brings a sense of responsibility with it. However, getting married is also a very tedious task. Be it your marriage or anyone else in your family, it needs a lot of preparation and effort. A bride/groom and their family members begin preparing for the marriage, way ahead of the marriage date. This makes it essential to get a marriage leave sanctioned. Applying for a marriage leave is thus essential. The number of days of leave you need dpends on you marriage and post marriage plans. To help you apply for a marriage leave we have given below two sample marriage leave application letters. The first sample letter is for the person who himself/herself is getting married. The second sample letter is written considering a different situation. In the second case, we would consider the example of a person applying for leave, for his sister's marriage. The format of the letter would be similar to any leave application letter. However, the reason varies, and this reason needs to be specified in the letter. 1. Sample Marriage Leave Application Letter Let us consider a 'would-be bride' needs leave for her marriage. The leave application will thus be as follows: 7th October, 2011 To, Ms. Kim Bear, Subject: Application for leave for my marriage Dear Ms. Bear, I am Pearl Mathew, and I work as a Communication Executive in the Communications department. I am glad to inform you, that 23rd October, 2011, I am getting married. I request you to approve my leave application from 17th October, 2011 - 30th October 2011. I need to be a part of some final preparations, rituals and spinsters' party before the wedding. As these days would be the most beautiful days of my life, I wish to enjoy every moment to the fullest. Post my wedding on 23rd, I am flying to Miami with my husband, and would return in a week. I would resume work from 1st November, 2011. I request you to approve my leave and also invite you to be a part of this ceremony, and shower your blessings on us. Thanking you in anticipation. Sample Marriage Leave Application letter - applying for leave for sister's marriage 7th October, 2011 To, Ms. Kim Bear, Subject: Application for leave for my marriage Dear Ms. Bear, I am Jim George, working in the Accounts Department, and this is with reference to my leave request. I request you to approve my leave from 15th October, 2011 to 22nd October, 2011. My younger sister Sim George is getting married on 21st October, 2011. Being her elder brother, I am loaded with many responsibilities and have to make all the arrangements for her wedding. I want this day to be the most beautiful day of her life. I thus request you to approve my leave application so that I could put in my best for her wedding. I would resume work from 23rd October after she leaves for California on 22nd October. I assure that this would not affect my work, and I would complete all my work once I am back from the wedding. It is my humble request to sanction my leave. These sample marriage leave application letters will help you get your leave approved. Attaching the wedding invitation along with strengthens your application. The employer can actually calculate how many days of leave you need before or after the marriage. In case of your marriage, you can apply for leave that begins before your marriage, and goes on for a week or two after the marriage. In case of your relative or sibling, the number of leaves you apply for should be thought carefully, such that the employer does not get a chance to deny it saying that you have asked for excess leaves.
