Landlord complaint letters play an important role in any landlord-paying guest association, especially when the landlord resides in another city away from the rented accommodation. Taking a rented accommodation is always a good option when you move to a new city and are low on budget for buying a house of your own. It gives you flexibility to easily move out whenever you find a better accommodation or shift to another city. Also you don't have to worry much about the maintenance as it is largely the landlord's work to ensure that everything in the flat is in working condition.

However this arrangement too has its flip side as you may find certain problems in the rented apartment. Your new accommodation may have electric wiring issues, non-functioning fans, noisy neighbors, leakage from the ceiling, etc. That is why it is strongly recommended that you thoroughly check the accommodation- its lights, walls, rooms and furniture before signing on the agreement papers. However these problems may arise at a later stage also. In such cases, you don't need to talk to the agent (that is if you have got the accommodation through an agent). Rather, you should approach your landlord directly requesting the required repairs. You may also propose to carry out these repairs on your own and offer to settle the cost in next month's rent by furnishing all the necessary bills.

When you write a landlord complaint letter, you should make sure that the letter makes the landlord amply clear about your problems- the mental and physical discomfort you are going through because of the particular situation. Also mention if there is an immediate danger to your life because of that situation. This will help in communicating clearly to your landlord the sense of urgency for the solution

Subject- Complaint about faulty water pipe

Dear Steven,

First of all I want to express how fortunate I feel about having found such a lovely accommodation in a city like Albany. The surroundings are extremely pleasant, my office is hardly 15 minutes from here and most importantly the neighbors are polite and friendly. However a slight problem has surfaced just recently. For the last one week my fresh water tap has been running dry.

The tap is running dry since 1st October '11 and thus I am facing a lot of problem due to the shortage of water. On 1st October '11 itself I called in a plumber who told me that there was an internal blockage in the pipe which would need to be dug out and repaired. I called the municipal officials for the same on 2rd October, '11 but they never responded back until yesterday, i.e. 5th October,'11. Now they have asked me to secure a copy of the previous month's water bill and only after which would they be able to start their work.

Sir, I have been facing a lot of problem since then. I am no longer able to either wash my clothes or cook food in the house as there is no water. So for the time being, I am giving out my clothes to the laundry and eating out at restaurants every day. Also I have to go to my friend's house for my morning bath which has become quite inconvenient for me as well as for him. Stating this, I request you to send in a water bill copy at the earliest as lot of my time and money is getting spent in laundry and eat-outs.
