Resignation Farewell Letter

Resume Cover Letters » Sample Letters » Farewell Letters » Resignation Farewell Letter

Every employee who joins an organization would have to quit the same someday. The person when quits an organization, resigns from the position held by him/her for certain tenure. While one resigns, his/her colleagues, friends at work place, etc., give him/her a farewell. In this farewell they communicate their messages, goodwill, and wish the person all the best for the time to come. Although some get a chance to speak what they want, some others write a letter that conveys their message for the person. This letter is known as a resignation farewell letter. The letter is written in two scenarios – first is when the colleagues write this letter to bid farewell to the person leaving the organization, and the second is the person leaving the organization addressing this letter to his colleagues.

How to write a resignation farewell letter?

Usually, this is a formal letter, but it depends on the relation you share with the person. If you are a close friend or colleague of the person, you can write an informal letter. On the other hand if the person resigning from the job is your senior, you will have to write a formal letter.

The letter written by the person, who is resigning, as mentioned in the second scenario in the first paragraph, will necessarily be a formal letter. This is because he/she will address the letter in general to one’s colleagues or seniors, and thus a formal language and format of the letter is essential.

These letters are now-a-days usually sent via emails. A letter sent via email, might differ to a certain extent from a normal letter. We would look at both these samples in the latter part of this article, but before that, we would discuss about the format of resignation farewell letter.

  1. Formal language and precise
  2. The letter should be typed and printed, rather than handwritten. However, a close friend and colleague can give a handwritten letter.
  3. Although a ‘From’ address is not essential; but a ‘To’ address should be included
  4. It should convey positivity and goodwill

The sample letters give below will clarify the concept further.
