Teacher Farewell Letter

A teacher farewell letter is one, amongst many other kinds of farewell letters, which is written by a teacher who has put in his/ her resignation and is leaving the educational institution soon.

During the course of employment with an institution, an employee comes in contact with many people, some of them become good friends, who are remembered forever. Just like this, in a school environment, a teacher makes friends with the students of his/ her class and tends to always remember them. This teacher farewell letter is one of the mediums to communicate to the staff and the students, how indebted and good the teacher feels for having had their good company during the tenure. It is a testament of all the good times that the place showed the teacher, and how much he will miss the place after leaving. Writing this letter is not something customary, but it comes from the heart, and the person writes it to express his gratitude, in writing, and lets students know how he/ she feels while leaving here, and setting off to a new destination.

Dear students,

This moment brings the feeling of nostalgia and heavy heartedness as I write to you. I am writing this letter to you to express my joy at being able to teach you and be your guide through the entire two years, which I spent here at Palm Springs College.

The last two years have been few of the greatest and the most constructive years of my life. This being my first job, the kind of warm welcome that I received at your hands was truly more than encouraging. I have always believed that teaching is a two-way process and that, the teacher and the students, both contribute simultaneously to this process, by both teaching each other new things, from day to day. I learned about so many new ideas from you guys; it all, in a way, used to charge me up and make me more enthusiastic in life. It is also my belief that a teacher-student relation should be accommodated with an open thinking and positive attitude. Saying this, I was truly happy to find those ideas coming to life throughout the entire two years, which I spent here at Palm Springs College. I will always remember the energy with which you guys spoke about various non-conventional ideas in the science class and the way you would all present them in your reports. One of the fondest memories would and will always be of the Annual State Science Exhibition, where you all won the 1st prize for the college; I am sure the post event party will not be forgotten soon by any one of you!

The way my last two years have shaped out, it is more than I could have expected. It would be apt to add here that in terms of personal growth, I wouldn't have got a better place than the Palm Springs College. Saying this, I thank you all for being so great and supporting in the class. I will always remember you all and will fondly miss our classes together, and those evening basketball games after school. This is a very simple example of writing a teacher farewell letter. It is straight to the point and talks in simple language. The writer, while writing such letters, should always include the subject section at the very beginning, before going to the body of the letter. This gives the reader a fair idea about why the letter has been written and what to expect in it. This is followed by the first paragraph, which is the introductory part. In it, the teacher lets the reader know about his/ her gratitude towards the good treatment and nice times provided to him/ by the reader/s. Elaborate on it in the second paragraph by mentioning one or two such examples for nostalgia sakes. Remember, the words should come out of your heart; it is not a necessary obligation to write a teacher farewell letter, it is rather something that one writes out of joy and sadness of leaving the place and company of their friends and colleagues. The third paragraph marks the conclusion of the letter in which, the teacher wraps it up by saying a final 'thank you' and telling the reader to stay in touch. It is not a good bye but the start of a new association , outside of the confines of the school or college, now donning a more social and informal nature.
