When you meet someone, you introduce yourself. Similarly, when you send your resume to an employer, it is your resume that comes in direct contact with your employer, even before you meet the employer. Thus, your resume also needs an introduction, and you can do the same by sending a resume introduction letter along with it. This introduction is similar to a cover letter, but is slightly different from it, because it will not certainly aim at justifying one’s application for the applied position.

A resume introduction letter is a brief introduction written and sent along with the resume, which particularly aims at introducing you, your profile, and your interest in a particular position. This letter thus, has to be written very careful because it will represent you, and help you interest the reader in your resume.

How to write a resume introduction letter?

This letter is strictly a formal letter, and has to be written with utmost care and attention. Your introduction is the first impression you create on the employer, without even meeting him/her. Thus, you must know what to include in the letter, and how to introduce yourself.

You might send your resume in response to a job vacancy advertised, or would send the same to enquire about any relevant vacancy in a particular organization. In both cases, the way you introduce yourself matters a lot, and would be slightly different. In the first case, you know what the employer’s requirement is; however, in the second case, you want the employer to feel that he might need you in his organization. Thus, the content of the letter or the way you present yourself would vary.

Both these scenarios will be discussed with two different sample letters given below. However, we would first discuss the format of this letter.

Header: The header will include your name, followed by your contact details. Updated phone number and email address is essential, so that the employer can easily contact you. This will appear on the top left hand side of the page.

The name, designation, and address of the person to whom the letter is addressed to would come after leaving a tab’s space.

Salutation: Start your letter with a proper salutation. Never write ‘To whomsoever it may concern’. The salutation should include the last name of the reader.

Body of the letter:

Since this is an introduction letter, the first paragraph should speak about the same. Introduce yourself, and mention your qualifications and work experience.

Elaborate more on your abilities, and hint the reader as to which sections of the resume have the most apt information, or which sections of the resume are a must read.

Mention about the enclosed resume, and any other documents. Close the letter by requesting the reader to consider your resume, and call you for an interview. Thank the reader for the time invested in reading your letter.
