A thank you letter is written to express your gratitude to a person for something that he has done for you. There are many nice and effective ways to thank them for their good deeds- one of them being, meeting them in person and saying it yourself. Then, there is the phone, developed by our very own Alexander Graham Bell, in 1870s for fulfilling people’s need of talking. Still, if one wants to write a letter, which has its own advantages, then it is up to one’s good judgment. By writing a letter, entwined with immaculate expressions of feelings and gratitude, one can touch people’s feelings and effectively show them his gratitude. However, in doing so, the fact needs to be kept in mind that you do not end up writing such letters too frequently, thus entrusting your own despair to the shoulders of your benefactor. Avoid such situations and plan your future needs well in advance. Of course, certain contingent situations could be marked under exceptions.

In this following ‘Thank You for Lending Money letter’, a person is thanking his landlord for lending him money to get his widowed mother treated for cancer.

Subject- Thanking you for lending me money.

Dear George,

I would like to thank you sincerely for the kind gesture that you have shown by lending us the required money in this dark hour of need. I cannot thank you enough in words for the kindness that you have displayed in our case is a rare quality that could not be expected even from the ones whom we call our own.

As you know, my mother needs to be urgently operated for cancer. Thank God for we have detected it while it still is in its early stage of growth. As I have told you that the doctors look quite optimistic about removing the cancerous growth for good, I feel happy to inform you further about the date of her operation. Yesterday we met the chief surgeon who has committed February 4 as the date of operation. I really hope that everything goes as per the plan. Until then, there are certain preliminary tests that need to be performed on her; a few of them were conducted today at the hospital.

I find it as my moral obligation to keep you informed about all such developments because after all, if it were not for you, we could never possibly have had this operation done. In the end, I would like to thank you again for your generosity and promise to pay back the borrowed amount within the already promised time period.

Thanking you,

(Signature)

Conclusion

This is one example of a thank you letter for your consideration. While writing such thank you letters it should be borne in mind that the ultimate purpose of them is to communicate your feelings of gratitude towards your benefactor and thus, it is for this reason that the letter needs to be short and to the point. Without wasting any time of yours, and more importantly, of the reader, you should directly start with addressing the discourse of dialogue, as it is shown here. The writer straightaway addresses the issue at hand, beginning from the very first line of the first paragraph. Then you can enter the small details of the whole thing, as it only seems befitting to let your benefactor know that his help has come to bring some relief to you. This has been done here in the second paragraph- the writer here, is telling his landlord about the latest developments that have taken place until now. Such things can also be communicated verbally but writing a letter relieves the writer from any burden of saying things face to face, which sometimes does not come out that effectively when spoken directly.
